MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 430-390 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 14.21 g, 12 h), light 'Thraco-Macedonian' standard. Agathon, magistrate. Lion right, attacking a bull kneeling left, head upraised; in exergue, astragalos (?) and ΑΓΑΘΩΝ. Rev. AKA-N-ΘIO-N Quadripartite square with granulated raised fields and surrounded by inscription; all within shallow incuse square. Desneux -. HGC 3.1, 391 var. (magistrate unrecorded). Obolos 28 (2023), 87 (same obverse die). SNG ANS -. Extremely rare. Slightly granular and the reverse struck somewhat off center and with a minor flan fault, otherwise, very fine.
